GLOSSARY OF TERMS
1.            Back Bowl: A bowl that comes to rest beyond the jack.
2.            Best Back: The bowl at rest beyond the jack, nearest the ditch than any opposition bowl.​
3.            Be Up: An instruction from the skip to bowl longer (don’t be short of the jack).
4.            Bias: Bowls are slightly egg-shaped and have a bias that causes them to travel in a curve.
5.            Centre Line: An imaginary line running lengthwise down the center of the rink.
6.            Counter: Any bowl that contributes to the score at the end.
7.            Dead Bowl: A bowl that lands in the ditch (not a toucher) or ends up outside the rink boundaries.
8.            Delivery: The moment when the bowl leaves the hand.
9.            Ditch: The depression surrounding the green, marking the boundary of the playing surface.
10.          End: The sequence of play from placing the mat to the last player’s bowl coming to rest.
11.          Fast Green: A dry, closely cut surface with little resistance to the bowl’s progress.
12.          Fire or Drive: A shot where the bowl is delivered at very high speed.
13.          Fluke: A shot that’s both excruciatingly executed and sublimely successful.
14.          Follow Through: The natural forward movement of the delivery arm following the bowl’s path.
15.          Foot Fault: When the rear foot isn’t completely on or above the mat during delivery. 
16.          Forehand: For right-handed players, the bowl is delivered with a curve from right to left..
18.          Head: The jack and all bowls played at any stage of an end.
