ETOBICOKE LAWN BOWLING CLUB

ELBC is a non-profit, all volunteer run lawn bowling club. Founded in 1950, with roots going back to 1941, the Etobicoke Lawn Bowling Club has been a source of joy and camaraderie for generations of Toronto residents. Since 1954 ELBC has had the largest average number of members of all clubs in Ontario. Nestled in the beautiful Tom Riley Park, we’re proud to have one of the most charming clubs in Ontario. We warmly invite people of all ages and abilities to join us for some low-impact fun in the great outdoors with our welcoming members. Dive into our rich history below!
J.A.L. MacPherson was Vickie Hayler’s great-grandfather. (Vickie is a long time member of ELBC). He was born in Islington in 1859. He helped establish Central Park (now Tom Riley Park) in the Mimico Creek valley.

In 1941 he persuaded the Montgomery family (owners of the historic Montgomery Inn) to donate land for the northern part of the proposed park (Dundas Street south to the railroad tracks). In 1944 he personally donated land for the southern part (railroad tracks south to Bloor Street) . He was then appointed to Central Park's Board of Management in 1945.

During this time he and his wife (Ada Jackes) enjoyed travelling the world and searching out lawn bowling clubs from which they collected many Club pins. It only makes sense that lawn bowling would also be an integral part of Central Park. Thus, in 1950, the Etobicoke Lawn Bowling Club was formed.

To this day we continue to honour the MacPherson's contribution to the formation of Tom Riley Park and the Etobicoke Lawn Bowling Club with a special tournament that welcomes new bowlers to the club.
